Found footage movies continue to evolve and adapt with technology. But today, I want to look at how Matt Reeves 2008 creature-feature Cloverfield learnt from decades of run-and-gun filmmaking and perfected the subjective video-camera horror genre on a reasonably low budget. Scott Pilgrim vs the World (2010) went from box-office bomb to cult-classic in less than a decade, and is celebrated for director Edgar Wright's unique style - mashing genres together with dynamic set pieces, editing, acting, and music. But there are too many video essays about that, so today I want to highlight another of Wright's overlooked qualities as a director: making a movie shoot fun. S...

I understand the belief that this show goes for both sides, but its more that the show goes for the right and the corporate left. Corporate left as in they go after the MCU act of the 'women get it done' or very racist stories that show how they dont care to actually understand the plight of different cultures or genders. The boys to me is actually one of the most openly leftist shows with how it shows the starlighters and with homelander being a big parody of donald trump

I always took the movies as explorations (and criticism) of the idea that some people are so intellectually gifted that they must be unconstrained by the laws of morality. The Par family are superheroes but they also happen to be good people. They view their exceptional talents as a way to better the world and help other people. Syndrome views superpowers as something that makes superheroes better than us mere mortals and sacrifices his morality to become them. Buddy began his journey as a boy filled to the brim with envy for Mr Incredible’s powers without realizing that those powers aren't what make Robert Par a hero. When he is finally able to imitate superpowers he still lacks the key ingredient of a good heart. Mr Incredible’s way of rejecting him was not good, but Buddy also handled it in the worst way imaginable. Later on, we see a Syndrome who wishes to be a living god. He tries to realize this by killing off the remaining superheroes, fabricating a crisis that he will solve, reigning as a god among men until “I’m old and I’ve had my fun,” and then selling his inventions to the public so that no one could be as super as he ever was in comparison. The movies definitely explore some objectivist viewpoints but I also think they criticise Rand’s views in the persons of Syndrome and Screenslaver. In the end, the thing that makes you truly exceptional is when you are true to yourself in a way that benefits all of humanity. Being so radically good that sometimes it may not be accepted by society. Most people are not as good as the Par family and that’s what makes them exceptional. In a world where everyone got to have superpowers, it would be hell. In a world where everyone was kind, no one would be super, but no one would have to be. TL;DR Incredibles is a movie about how being a good person is what truly makes someone a hero.

Your favourite show? That's interesting. I mean, Succession is great but it could never be my favourite show, even if Westworld, Game of Thrones, and Altered Carbon get dismissed because people think they fell off and Daredevil and Hannibal don't count because they got cancelled, Succession still couldn't be my favourite TV show whilst Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul exist. I don't have a favourite character in Succession. I detest all of the characters equally, Connor is as much a jerk as the rest, so is Jerry, Greg is, too, Ewan is a self-righteous, pretentious, know-it-all hateful, spiteful prick and a hypocrite. Best aspect of the show is how it keeps making me alternate between which characters I sympathise with and which ones I side against, the same character one minute I'm feeling sorry for and the next I'm feeling sorry for the person they're going up against and I'm siding against them. Ultimately, no one wins in the end, and I end up feeling most sorry for Kendall of all people because he loses it all and is a broken man, despondent, on the verge of a mental breakdown, and potentially seriously considering s*i**de.

I think a lot of people are also ignoring the fact that she's an escort. Reading people and catering to them is what she does for a living. When he found that out, he sent her to his "home" knowing she would take whatever information she could to try to read him and in turn cater to him; and that's exactly what she did. What she did wasn't just a ploy, she genuinely tried to get him to see his love for food wasn't dead(as he expected, she genuinely cares about people)...that's why she finished the burger

Alien is soooooo much more than a SCI-Fi Horror film. Many times, the categorisation of films done by journalists can be extremely reductive. But when a director makes films he shouldn’t focus on confining it into a genre. That’s not how believable stories work. Although the film shouldn’t lose focus, there are always other layers that can be highlighted which may not be the point of the film but are important nonetheless.

Disagree that Buddy was dismissed due to being "not special enough". He was dismissed for a few reasons: He preferred the familiar, which in many cases was working alone OR with a few select trusted allies. He also was dismissed due to the increased risk/danger for both Buddy and himself if he would have been exposed to the situations at hand. Buddy approached it all wrong if he wanted any chance of being a sidekick.
